I don’t want to be a professional photographer. I don’t want to be a fashion photographer or a fashion model. I don’t want to make photos for magazines or for weddings. I don’t want to take pictures of dogs or children or flowers. I don’t want to always be pretty and smile in pictures. I don’t want to be perfect and put together and in control. I don’t want to put restrictions on what I do or who I am in my photographs. I don’t want to be who you want me to be. I haven’t wanted anyone to pay me for making something just for them. I’ve wanted people to enjoy what I have made for myself. I want to be unafraid. I don’t want to ever stop. If I am 80 years old and shuffling arthritic limbs out of quick jersey-knit shirts near open hotel windows at dusk with my camera pointed at me, I’ll know I have done everything that I had intended to do and possibly quite a bit more.

I couldn’t have said it better. That’s what I’m always trying to explain to everybody but they just don’t understand.
